Stylish Ways to Wear Denim on Denim This Season
AUGUST 02, 2020 - FASHION

"Never wear denim on denim!" This old adage has stood as one of the most prominent fashion rules out there. But if you ask me, rules are meant to be broken! Sure, it's a tricky look to pull off, but when done correctly, it will look amazing. Besides, it's currently a trend among fashion icons, such as Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.

Not sure how you can pull it off? Don't worry! Allow me to give you pointers for a double denim outfit. Read on for fashionable tips on how to wear denim on denim flawlessly.

Play With Different Washes

If you're a novice in the denim on denim game, you can't go wrong with this trick. Try different colors and washes in your outfit. From dark to light and white to black, there are a lot of different denim washes you can try. Try pairing them together for a tasteful and stylish look.

For example, you can try wearing white jeans, a light blue denim jacket, and a chambray shirt. You can't go wrong with this look. Personally, I like to pair my favorite light denim jacket with a pair of black jeans for a slimming effect.

Try a Slouchy Silhouette

Denim on denim outfits are usually considered a casual street look. To emphasize that, try wearing a slouchy silhouette. Play with different fits and washes to an effortless, breezy look that's comfortable to wear on a day out in the town.

Personally, I love wearing this style on my lazy days. I'd just pick a pair of mom jeans and a loose denim shirt to wear. Then I'd put my hair up in a messy bun for an easy yet stylish look. Alternatively, sometimes I'd also wear a denim jumpsuit paired with flats or sneakers for a casual outfit.

Wear Different Articles of Clothing

Denim doesn't just mean jeans and denim jacket, you know? There are a ton of clothing articles made of denim out there. From tank tops to culottes, experiment with different denim clothing articles for a new and stylish outfit.

For a cute and casual look, I usually pair my favorite denim mini skirt with a white tee and denim jacket. Meanwhile, for a more stylish street look, I usually pair a denim shirt with a denim mini skirt, embellished with a statement belt to tie off the outfit.

Go Monochrome

Okay, I did say that you can't go wrong by mixing denim washes, but that doesn't mean you can't do the total opposite. Once you're more comfortable with wearing denim on denim, try wearing the same wash from head to toe. Is this a risky look? Yes. But if done correctly, it will make you look bold and fierce.

To make sure your ensemble looks flawless, I recommend using clothing items that come from the same brand. I like to look for a double denim outfit set that's sold together for a safer outfit. That said, if you're confident enough with your fashion sense, you can try using denim items from different brands that have the same wash.

Add a Splash of Color

Wearing denim on denim can get a bit boring after a while. To freshen things up, why not add a splash of color to your outfit? There are hundreds of ways to do so. For example, you can wear a colorful tee, add a piece of statement jewelry, or wear some color-block shoes.

Personally, I love adding statement jewelry to make my denim on denim outfit pop. You can't go wrong with a flashy bag, a statement necklace, or a thick belt. Just make sure you don't overdo it to avoid looking tacky. Another way you can inject color to your denim outfit by using embroidery. Do you know those pretty embroidered denim jackets or jeans? They'd look awesome for a double denim outfit.

Add Lingerie

Denim on denim outfits may be the poster child of the casual street look. But that doesn't mean you can't make it look sexy and more appealing. Adding a piece of lingerie to your denim ensemble can make it look gorgeous. Plus, doing this can boost your confidence, at least that's the case for me.

The easiest way to pull this look off is by swapping your usual tee for a sexy bustier. Then, pair it with your favorite denim jacket and jeans. I usually do this with my favorite lacy black bralette. Strutting around town with this outfit makes me feel like I'm the sexiest girl in town. You can also try different types of lingerie, such as corsets, bodysuits, or whatever makes you feel more confident. Triple Denim

So, now you've mastered the art of wearing a double denim outfit. It's time to challenge yourself! Why stop at double? Try a triple denim outfit for a fresh new look! I haven't gathered enough courage to try this look yet, but I've seen some great examples of triple denim on denim outfits out there.

A lot of celebrities and fashion icons have pulled off this look flawlessly, for example, Bella Hadid during the 2020 Paris Fashion Week as pictured above. She was seen wearing a pair of denim cargo pants, a denim shirt, and a long denim coat. This outfit gives off a carelessly cool vibe to die for. There are a thousand different easy to wear triple denims, but I think this iconic outfit is something to strive for.

Closing Thoughts

Remember, fashion is not something to be feared. Instead, it's a way to express yourself to the world. The same goes for wearing denim on denim. Women should attempt the double denim look at least once in their life. Denim on denim is no longer a fashion faux pas; it's a super trendy and edgy look that anyone can pull off with the right formula. Good luck, gorgeous!
