OCTOBER 10, 2023 - LIFESTYLE

Who doesn't love food? It's so hard to stay in shape when all those tasty foods are all around you. It's true that the things we love the most, such as hamburgers, are full of calories. But, what if I told you that there are so many low-calorie foods that also taste great? You will be able to slim down like never before, without any torture. I know, nothing can replace a tasty pizza or pasta, but you don't have to suffer in order to lose weight. I'm here to present to you the lowest calorie foods, which taste great, along with some quick and easy recipes.

1. Lean Meat

This is a very good source of protein, it's healthy, and 112 grams of chicken has only 185 calories and 35 grams of protein. Turkey meat is slightly less caloric due to the less amount of fat In it. Boil it and make a chicken salad. To do that, just chop the chicken into little pieces, mix it up with a salad, and add seasonings, such as pepper, paprika, or whatever you like. Avoid dressings. It will fill you up, it's healthy, full of protein, and really low in calories.

2. Eggs

Eggs are such a magical food. It has 6 grams of protein, 75 calories in one large egg, and all the calories are concentrated in the yolk. You can boil or fry eggs, but you will need to use oil if you want it fried. You can make a scrambled egg, as well. Don't eat more than 3 eggs a day, because it can increase the level of cholesterol in your body. However, there are people who are perfectly healthy and eat even more than that on a daily basis. Just eat as much as you need, but keep in mind that you shouldn't eat too many. There are various kinds of diets based on eggs, so you can try them out as well. This is probably one of the best low-calorie foods I can think of. There are some studies that have proven that eating eggs for breakfast makes you feel fuller throughout the day.

3. Air-Popped Popcorn

Popcorn is so good! It's more of a snack than a meal, but popcorn is one of the healthiest snacks you can eat. Why don't you swap chips and nachos with homemade, air-popped popcorn? I don't mean that popcorn you buy at cinemas or grocery stores. They are full of fat and, possibly, all kinds of dressings. If you don't have or don't want to buy an air-popping machine, you can still make popcorn at home, but you will need oil. Anyway, they will be healthier than any other bought products. You will need a bigger pot (it shouldn't be too thick), some oil, and raw popcorn. The only thing you need to do is cover the pot's bottom with oil completely, pour popcorn in like manner (only to cover the bottom completely), and heat it up. When you hear the popping sound, just shake the pot a bit every minute. When you hear that the popping is slowly stopping, take the pot off the heat, sprinkle some salt on the top of the popcorn, and pour them into a large bowl. Homemade air-popcorn has only 31 calories per cup, so I would recommend simply investing in an air-popping machine. If you can't afford it, just use my recipe. Make sure you don't make them at high temperatures.

4. Berries

Berries are one of the healthiest foods you can eat. Strawberries, my favorite fruit, have only 45 calories per cup. All berries are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, boost weight loss, and reduce hunger. 1 cup (148 grams) of blueberries contains only 84 calories. Eating berries can make you feel fuller because they are full of pectin, so you might consume fewer calories later if you eat berries.

5. Watermelon

They say you can eat an endless amount of watermelon and not get fat. It's a myth. Don't eat anything in too big portions because that can increase the size of your gizzard and your appetite. Not only the watermelon is healthy, but it's also full of vitamins A and C. It will keep you full because of the high amount of water it contains. One cup (146 grams) of watermelon has 45 calories. If you want to reduce calorie intake, watermelon is the best pick for you. Eat watermelon and berries instead of sugary foods, like cookies.

6. Potatoes

Who doesn't love potatoes? You're probably amazed by this list of low-calorie foods. One medium baked potato with the skin contains 161 calories and has 4 grams of protein, which is much lesser compared to high-fat french fries. You can slice potatoes and make baked fries or put whole potatoes in the oven. I like to cut them in the middle, so they can bake faster. I also like to put some rosemary on them before baking. Preheat the oven to 425°F and bake them for 45 minutes.

7. Fish

If you love to fish, you've won the prize! It's extremely healthy, full of healthy fats and protein. To cut calorie consumption even further, aim for fish like cod, halibut or sole over salmon, sardines or mackerel because they're lower in calories. Fish reduces appetite, and 3 ounces (85 grams) of lean fish contain under 70 calories and more than 14g of protein.

The Final Word

There are plenty of low-calorie foods out there, for example, broccoli and zucchini, but I wanted to talk about the food that almost everyone loves. Who doesn't love potatoes? I'm joking a bit, but if you want to lose weight, you ought to eat less in general. In order not to starve yourself, just eat these low-calorie foods without torturing yourself. Trust me, starving won't help you lose weight. Even if it does, it will only be temporary. Low-calorie food will help you to maintain your weight when you lose it. Be smart and eat the right things!
